SOLUTION

magnify image FigureG5.5 Give customers the option to send products to multiple addresses. Let customers choose which items will be shipped where, and provide a way for them to add new addresses. Before the order is finalized, provide a concise order summary that shows where all of the items will be shipped.

Provide a Ship to Multiple Addresses action button at the top of the quick address selection page. If the customer clicks it, show a new page with an Add New Address action button, a list of all the products in the order, and a pick list next to each product. The pick list provides all the destination options. If there are no existing addresses, as in the case of first-time customers, immediately go to the page for inputting new addresses. On the new-address page, have a newaddress form that is quick and easy to read. On the order summary page, separate orders by their destinations, and provide a link to change the items in a destinations order. On the confirmation and thank-you page, separate items by destination.

Other Patterns to Consider

Answer questions that customers might have about your site security by providing a direct link to your PRIVACY POLICY (E4). Help customers fill out the form by PREVENTING ERRORS (K12) and providing MEANINGFUL ERROR MESSAGES (K13) when errors do occur. Use ACTION BUTTONS (K4) to lead customers to the next stage in the checkout, and to edit a destinations order on the ORDER SUMMARY (F7) page. Display the rows of items in a GRID LAYOUT (I1), in CONTENT MODULES (D2).
