PROBLEM

Chronologically organizing content on a site helps visitors understand the order of content in time, whether past or future, but very long lists of events are difficult to read and use.

SOLUTION

magnify image FigureB5.2 Organizing chronological content into smaller groups of time makes reading about each era that much easier.

Display chronological lists in a vertical, horizontal, or calendar format, keeping the total number of items in each list under 50 by dividing the list into smaller groups of time.

Other Patterns to Consider

Use a PAGE TEMPLATE (D1) to publish your vertical, horizontal, or calendar display in a CONTENT MODULE (D2) to keep it in a well-known place. Use HIERARCHICAL ORGANIZATION (B3) to keep lists of chronological items manageable. Use a CATEGORY PAGE (B8) as a directory for each group in the hierarchy.
